01 · The batizado
Your first game
In the roda, with a mestre, in front of the whole school. You come out of it wearing a cord you did not have that morning. It is a beginning, not a graduation from anything.
Palm Springs, California · 23–24 Jan 2027
Two cities, one roda. The batizado & troca de cordas of Capoeira Brasil Palm Springs — five days of workshops, rodas and music with Mestre Mindinho and mestres flying in from Paris and Brussels, ending in the ceremony that changes what you wear.
For anyone who has never been to one
A batizado is the day a capoeirista is given their first cord, in front of everybody, by playing. A troca de cordas is the exchange — everyone else trades the cord they wear for the next one. Around those two ceremonies we build five days of workshops, music and rodas, and anyone can come and watch for free.

02 · The troca
The exchange
Everyone ready moves one rung. Little kids go first, then big kids, then adults — that is the order of the whole Sunday ceremony, and it has not changed in decades.
03 · The roda
The circle
Music, clapping, two people playing in the middle, everyone else holding the ring together. Saturday night we run the main roda of the year.
“The cord is
my gift.
It doesn’t count
in the price.”
Mestre Mindinho
Nobody buys a cord here and nobody ever will. You pay the same whether you receive one this year or not. What the ticket buys is training with some of the best capoeiristas alive — and it is what pays for their flights.
One festival, two cities
The two schools share the guest teachers and let each other’s students in free. Everything else — money, tickets, organization — stays separate. One ticket does not cover both cities.
Hosted by our partner school. Rodas, workshops and their own graduation, in the days before the desert weekend.
Ours. Saturday is the festival day — kids camp, workshops, the main roda, then the social. Sunday is the ceremony, done by 1pm.

Who is teaching
Mestre Mindinho chooses every guest personally — old friends, and people who bring a room to its feet.
Two are confirmed and flying from Europe. More get added as registrations come in, because your ticket is what buys their seat.

Unlocked by youEvery ticket sold moves the budget up. The first tickets pay the two confirmed flights from Paris and Brussels; after that, each block of registrations pays for the next guest. Register early and you are choosing who else gets on a plane.
Names, titles and photographs are confirmed with each guest before they go on this page. We would rather show you an empty card than a name we cannot stand behind.
The shape of the week
Times firm up closer to the date, and every registrant gets the final running order by email. The venue address goes out with your confirmation.
What it costs
Every ticket covers all workshops, all rodas and the event shirt.
Prices step up twice between now and January — on 1 November and again on 1 January. Nothing here ever gets cheaper, so the number below is the lowest it will be.
Now → 22 November · visiting adult
$85
The early-bird price for a capoeirista visiting from another school. Both Palm Springs days — every workshop, every roda — plus the shirt.
Because they carry it. CBPS students’ tickets are the money that books the flights from Paris and Brussels before a single visitor has registered — and they are the ones receiving their cords on the Sunday.
The extra is never for the cord. A student pays the same whether they graduate that year or not.
From 1 November
From 1 January
$360
Four visiting adults, one payment, $90 each — and it is the one price on this page that never moves. Not in November, not in January. $360 is $360 until the doors open. Visiting adults only.
Sunday’s ceremony has open doors. Family, friends, neighbors, anyone curious — no ticket, no capoeira required. This is how most people here started.
Getting here
Most people flying in are not coming for a workshop. They are coming for the trip — two hours from LAX, palm trees, desert, and a roda they will talk about for a year.
01
Fly to LAX
Every major carrier lands there, and January is the cheap end of the year out of Europe. Book once your registration is confirmed — not the week before.
02
We bring you over
Los Angeles to Palm Springs is about two hours. The carpool board opens in September; most people ride over together after the LA days.
03
Stay with the group
There is no hotel block. There is a lodging-share board, a list of places we actually recommend, and people splitting rentals.
Rough, honest arithmetic — not a quote. Every number above except the ticket depends on who you end up sharing with, which is exactly what the boards are for.
Leaving somewhere at a time with seats free? Need a ride? Place, time, seats — claim it and go. Opens September.
“I have a place, three spots, these dates.” “Looking to share, this budget.” You take it from there. 18+ only. Opens September.
On both boards: CBPS never books anything, never holds anyone’s money, and never guarantees an arrangement. The board introduces two people — they sort it out between themselves.
For parents
Saturday morning is the kids camp — their own workshops, their own space, their own teachers. On Sunday they go first in the ceremony: little kids, then big kids, then adults.
Kids from four up. Under sixteen pays the kid ticket even if they already train in the adult class. Parents watch free.
Before you ask
Anything else, text or email — a person answers, usually the same day.
No. Sunday’s ceremony is free and open — come and watch. If you want to try, first-timers are welcome in the workshops; tell us when you register and we will put you where you should be.

No. Visitors take every class and play in every roda, but the cords are for students Mestre is responsible for. If you train under one of his network instructors and he has agreed to graduate you, you pay the CBPS rate — say so when you register.
Registrations are transferable, not refundable. If you cannot make it, pass your spot to someone else and tell us the name — no fee, no argument. That is a better deal than a refund policy, and it keeps the budget honest for everyone who did commit.
Not automatically. The two schools are separate events sharing the same guests. Our students get into the LA days free and theirs get in here free — but if you are visiting from anywhere else, you buy each one separately.
Palm Springs, California. The venue address goes out with your registration confirmation — that is how we run every event.
White trousers if you have them, your cord, an instrument if you play one, and a water bottle. Everything else — shirt included — comes with the ticket.

Put your email in and we send you a link to finish — who you train with, how many of you, birthdates, shirt sizes, the waiver and payment. Two minutes.
